Introducing Conquer the Challenge
What is the challenge?
From 1 March 2021 until 31 May 2021, we’re challenging you to see how far you can run, cycle or walk (or a combination of all three), raising vital funds! This challenge is all about the distance – every step, every pedal, every stride takes us closer to a cure!
You can select our Standard Challenge of 88 miles or The Matrix Series of 127 miles: cycle 88 miles, run 28 miles and walk 11 miles.
- 88 miles – for the 88,000 people living with a brain tumour in the UK
- 28 miles – for the £2.8 million we have invested into the Tessa Jowell BRAIN MATRIX
- 11 miles - for the 11,700 diagnosed each year with a brain tumour in the UK

Is there a registration fee?
No, there's no registration fee to take part.
What happens after I sign up?
We’ll be in touch to make sure you have everything you need to get going!

*Please note: the availability and delivery of t-shirts may be disrupted/delayed due to local Government restrictions.
Will I receive a medal after my challenge?
Once the whole challenge has finished and you’ve raised the minimum £100 target, we’ll send you a certificate and medal. Unfortunately, due to changing government guidance we are unable to provide a specific date, but we’ll try and get them to you as soon as possible.
Fundraising
Do I need to raise a minimum amount?
We understand that at this time, raising money is tough, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, charity income has been decimated. That’s why we ask you to pledge to raise £100 to receive a medal. The money you raise will help us to make a difference to everyone affected by a brain tumour. #ACureCantWait
How do I collect money for my event?
When you sign up, your JustGiving page will be automatically created and any donations collected on your page will come directly to The Brain Tumour Charity. Please share your page with friends and family, and on social media, so people can donate to your challenge.
You can also collect money offline, but please be sure to observe current social distancing guidelines if doing this. A sponsorship form for offline donations can be downloaded here.
How can I pay my fundraising to The Charity?
All donations made to your JustGiving page will be transferred to The Brain Tumour Charity automatically, so you don’t need to do anything. Donations made through JustGiving are transferred to the Charity on a weekly basis, so we’ll receive your donations throughout the challenge, rather than waiting until the challenge has been completed.
If you have any offline donations, please send them to the address below, along with sponsorship forms, referencing ‘Conquer the Challenge 2021’ and your name to:
The Brain Tumour Charity, Fleet 27, Rye Close, Fleet, GU51 2UH.
What happens to the money I fundraise?
Please see ‘Why your challenge counts'
Your fundraising will go towards our goals of doubling survival and halving the harm. Here are just some of the ways your money can make an impact for people affected by brain tumours:
- £100 could pay for a test to understand the genetic changes linked to brain tumour development, to help identify personalised treatments.
- £150 could ensure 150 families receive a HeadSmart card, making them aware of the symptoms of brain tumours in children and teenagers.
- £250 could cover the cost of giving 10 children and their families the immediate support and information they need after the devastation of a diagnosis.
- £500 could cover two days of research for one of our leading brain tumour researchers, to better understand brain tumours and provide more targeted treatments.
The Challenge
How does the challenge work?
The challenge will run for three months, and you’re able to join at any point during this time.
We’re challenging you to run, cycle or walk (or a combination) to complete:
Standard Challenge – Run, cycle, walk (or all three) your way to 88 miles for the 88,000 people living with a brain tumour in the UK.
Matrix Series - Cycle 88 miles for the 88,000 people living with a brain tumour. Run 28 miles for the £2.8 million we’ve invested in the Tessa Jowell BRAIN MATRIX study and walk 11 miles for the 11,700 people who are diagnosed each year with a brain tumour, in the UK.
Throughout the challenge you’ll need to log the distance you travel on your own fundraising page, to reach your goal.
Once you’re signed up and your fundraising page is ready, make sure you add a profile picture and keep your page updated. Then all you need to do is share with your friends and family, and on social media.
How do I track my distance travelled?
However you choose to take on this challenge you’ll need to measure the number of miles you travel. There are lots of popular streaming apps and services you can use to track your distance.
If you use a fitness app e.g. MapMyFitness, Fitbit, Apple Fitness/Workouts, it will track the distance travelled during your activity for you. Simply log this distance on your fundraising page manually using the ‘Log fitness’ button on your fundraising page.
If you are a Strava user, you can now link your fundraising page with your Strava account to automatically post your achievements, Simply log in to your fundraising page, select ‘Edit page’ and then click on the ‘Fitness’ tab to connect your account.
We have also set up a Strava Club for this challenge – so join together with your fellow challengers, give kudos and support each other whilst completing your miles.
Updating your page on a regular basis is a great way to share your progress with your donors. Sharing your progress with friends and family on social media or via email will also give your fundraising a boost.
Do I need to do this on a specific day?
No, you can take this on at any time between 1 March and 31 May 2021. As long as you register before 31 May your page will remain active and can be updated for a further three months.
Do I need to complete the challenge in one go?
No, you can complete your chosen distance/s over as many or as few sessions as you want, but we’d encourage you to complete your total target distance within three months of starting.
Can we take part as a team?
Absolutely! Once you sign up, you can create or join a team. If you’re setting up a team, you’ll need a team name and a team fundraising target. When others sign up, they can choose to join a team and type in the same team name – this will ensure all your pages are linked together. For every member of the team, there is an individual £100 target (your team captain may need to update the team total on your team page to include all members). For The Matrix Series you could set up a team of three with each participant responsible for a separate activity.
I’ve changed my distance/fundraising target – how do I edit my page?
Once you’re logged in, you’ll need to click on the profile icon in the bottom left of your screen. Click the icon and you’ll be able to ‘Edit page’, you can update your fundraising and distance targets as well as change your profile photo and make changes to the story that appears on your fundraising page.
If you decide to change from the Standard Challenge to The Matrix Series please drop us an email events@thebraintumourcharity.org, so we can update your details and ensure you receive the correct medal!
How do I change my Team details?
You can only edit your team’s details if you were the team member who created the team. You’ll need to, as above, click on ‘Edit page’ and you’ll also have the option to edit the team page. You’ll be able to edit the Team name, fundraising target and story.
